Southeast MN Adventure Trail
The Southeast Minnesota Adventure Trail (SEMAT) offers an unforgettable overlanding experience through one of the state’s most geographically and culturally rich regions. Winding through the heart of southeastern Minnesota, the route showcases the dramatic terrain of the Driftless Area—a unique landscape untouched by glaciers, featuring steep bluffs, winding river valleys, limestone ridges, and deeply carved coulees. This trail is ideal for dual-sport riders, ADV enthusiasts, and overlanders looking to easily explore a part of Minnesota that feels worlds away from the flat prairies of the west or the deep forests of the north.
The SEMAT route has been carefully mapped to balance scenic backroads with unpaved and lightly maintained trails, offering both technical riding and relaxed cruising. Travelers will pass through a patchwork of rolling farmland, hardwood forests, and historic towns like Lanesboro, Harmony, and Winona—places that offer charm, history, and locally owned stops to refuel and recharge. The route closely follows rivers like the Root and Zumbro, and riders are treated to stunning vistas from hilltops and bluff overlooks.
